Full Pachypodium care guide → - Light
- Full sun outdoors in coastal climates; bright direct light in a greenhouse. A south-facing window is acceptable for winter quarters but not enough for summer growth.
- Water
- Heavy waterer in active growth — far heavier than its squat profile suggests. Let the soil dry between drinks but do not subject it to drought during summer.
- Soil
- Coarse mineral mix: pumice, scoria, decomposed granite, with a small bark component. Drainage trumps composition.
- Dormancy
- Winter-deciduous. The leaves drop after flowering's tail end; keep the plant essentially dry until the next spring's bud break.
- Hardiness
- USDA 11 (cold-shy, 45°F dry survivable; below that risks dieback, no frost).
- Feeding
- Balanced fertilizer at half strength every two weeks during active growth. None during the dormant period.
