Full Pachypodium care guide → - Light
- Full sun to bright filtered light. The hybrid handles more sun than tropical Pachypodiums and benefits from the heat for both bark hardening and flowering.
- Water
- Winter-grower in the natural rhythm — the inverse of most plants in this catalog. Water during cool, bright months; reduce sharply through hot summer.
- Soil
- Pure mineral mix or close to it. Pumice, decomposed granite, and crushed lava make up the bulk; add 10 to 15 percent organic at most.
- Dormancy
- Summer-deciduous in habitat; in cultivation often blurred. Watch the plant rather than the calendar — water when in leaf, hold back when dropped.
- Hardiness
- USDA 9b–11 (surprisingly cold-tolerant for the genus when dry; 35°F survivable, 40°F safe operating floor).
- Feeding
- Balanced fertilizer at half strength once a month during active growth. Skip during the leafless rest.
